MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Which Stare down Worked
The Snowden Young Ladies pulled off a big job Wednesday against the Lady Roadrunners of Ridgeway. Ridgeway has continued their destiny from the bottom to the top to the City Championship and The Tennessee State Sectional Tournament. The Lady Roadrunners came into the city tournament as a 4th seed team and worked their way to the top to the MIAA Middle School City Championship Game. This was a great turn around for Belinda Dotson and her young ladies. Coach Dotson has worked hard to motivate her girls and practiced long days and took her loses like a champ. After the hard work and parenting her team would pay off. She made her team believe the dream.
Wednesday before a standing room only crowd the Lady Roadrunners laced
up and put up a fight against the Lady Greenies. Ridgeway kept the
game tight all the way through until the 4th quarter. And then the
fatique would set in for Ridgeway and then Haynes poured in the troops
off the bench fresh legs and bench depth will do the job everytime.
Snowden would win the MIAA City Championship 47-36. Tia
"Cats and Dawgs"
A well rounded program like a college recruiting class, The Snowden Green Dawgs has the top in every class with Myiah Barnes as a 6th grade starter with high expectation. Minyone Hill as a hand full of a seventh grader and to top it off, Tia Wooten the Best 8th Grader in the Shelby Metro Area. Snowden has dominated their opponents this season so far. Three players mention above is just a few names to buzz from this team. Believe it or not there is more in 6th Grader Deja Montgomery and 7th Grader Emanye Robertson. Not only there are good players that are developing at Snowden, the Developer Rashad Haynes are take his schedule and dissecting the opponents like a science project. With Sherwood, Kingsbury, Georgian Hills and Raleigh Egypt remaining on the schedule til the Winter Break Snowden looks to improve their record to be unbeaten. Meanwhile on the other side of town in Hickory Hill. The Hickory Ridge Lady Wildcats share the same success in the unbeaten column. These two teams are sought to be the best around. The standout for the Lady Wildcats is Tierney "Shaq" Pettis is the one that is to lead the Lady Wildcats to the promise land. Ashley Jackson, Alexis Bryson and Tierney Paylor are key aspects to the Lady Wildcats team. Coach Gwendolyn Martin has very high expectation in her young ladies this season. Lady Wildcats schedule until the break has ahead Colonial, White Station, Amaceo Walker, Wooddale and Geeter. Unlike Snowden, Hickory Ridge have a little tougher schedule ahead. The MAM Christmas Tournament is the next big obstacle for both teams. Can these two teams meet or will it be a county school vs. a city school. Reports are in 2010 EA Sports and adidas will be hosting a National Middle School event here in Memphis next December 18-23, 2010. 10/25 Independent Private Middle Schools (Rising Stars) Nicole Ungaro - Briarcrest
Chloe Knox is in the 7th grade and stands at 5'10. This is Chloe’s first year at Briarcrest. She just recently moved from Denver, Colorado. Chloe is a very fundamental player. Her biggest strength is perimeter shooting and banging down low for points. Brandi Beasley is a 5'6, 6th grader at St. George's. This will be Brandi’s first year at St. George’s. She is a super strong ball handler with quickness and speed on her side , along with a very good understanding of the game. Kaylan “The Beast” Pugh 5’8” is a 7th grader at S. Mary's and can play multi positions. Kaylan is one of those players who can be placed in any position and dominate. She is a very athletic and strong player. In my opinion she is one of the most dominate players in Middle School ball including City, County and Private schools. She received her nickname when coaches would make comments after games they would add “that girl is a beast”. Tom Jackson will be the lead man this year at St. Francis and he has a crafty tool in 8th grader, Gabrielle Salazar. Memphis Catholic went 16-3 last year and was the PAA Champions. They will lose a valuable asset in Phelicia Atkins, which has been moved up to play Varsity High School ball, where she will be the point guard for the Lady Chargers High School Team. This kid is a big time player by far. She will make a difference in Catholic's High School Program.
Herhoops County Jamboree Report
Kaitlin Parks - G'town
Schilling Farms is armed with one of the Best 6th graders around with Jaida Roper. Roper plays defense and can she ever get down the floor on the break. She had 5 steals in the Jamboree. Roper is not alone at Schilling. 8th grade sensation Marisa Knox is no stranger to the area. Knox can get it done and to top it off they have a great coach in Patty Garner. Khaila Prather was one who looked to be a force to recon with. Prather at 6'1 can do it all. She can bring it down the court, pass it, and rule the boards. She and her Arlington Bobcats will be out to make a run for the SCS Tournament. Just down the road a bit of course Shadowlawn is maintaining with Jasmine Cincore and Kayla Bolden, who are just 2 great players hands down. Collierville looked like they will be competitors this year with the shooting of Sidney Smith and Amber Baldwin, who both are intelligent athletes on the floor. The biggest team of the day was Mount Pisgah with the Twin Towers in the Cowan Twins and Aysha Harris made impressive showing against newcomer to Shelby County's League the Hawks of Highland Oaks where Rodrea Echols and Dariya Drew will be a force in the back court. Let's not forget Elmore Park who looked pretty impressive. The only school that did not participate was Lowrance Middle formally Southwind Middle. Southwind's guard Amber Holmes and Coach Green will take the court Monday to face off with the Hawks of Highland Oaks for their season opener at Lowrance at 4:15 pm. The County will have great games this season and all of these young ladies will blossom throughout the season.

Who is the Best of the Best in Middle School today?
Tia Wooten - Snowden Jasmine Cincore - Shadowlawn 10/23 Tia Wooten of Snowden, will set new heights for a middle school player in the MIAA Middle School Competition this year. Wooten 5'8 has the ability to play every position on the court. Wooten has a tremendous mid-range game and is a incredible play maker. Head Coach Rashad Haynes will be counting on Wooten to lead her team back to another trip to the State Sectional Tournament. Haynes has coached some great middle school athletes. One being the Central High standout and nationally ranked Danielle Ballard. It was told that Haynes has the Midas Touch. He is the creator of the middle school super athlete. In 2008 there was Ballard (Central), 2009 it was Jenika Williams (East) and in 2010 its Tia Wooten that will rule the dawgs. Haynes has made a difference in all these young ladies game.
On the other side of town Jasmine Cincore is the crowd pleaser. Cincore is a dynamic force in Shelby County. She is a leader and a basketball guru in the rectangled arena. Sincore works hard and under her coach and dad she understands she has to give it all. Wesley Cincore will work the remote control on the bench at Shadowlawn this season where jasmine will execute the moves. Jasmine is light years ahead of the game. Her skill level and court knowledge sets her apart from the rest. She is definitely one to watch in high school and on the Summer Circuit in the years to come. Every High School Coach wants a kid of this caliber. She will be a college coach's magnet.
So stay around and be in the gym this season and you see who is the "Best of the Best." Is it one of these 2 or will it be a Sleeper that will slip into the ranks.
10/2 Memphis City Schools Middle Schools are Now In the Gym. Memphis City Schools will be good this year. the question to ask, is the best talent in the county or the city these days. With Players like Tia Wooten which is probably the best Middle School Player in the city school system. Wooten is a force for the Snowden Green Dawgs team and Coach Rashad Haynes knows he has a big job ahead of him to get back to the top. Haynes and Charlene Hopson are 2 of the best coaches in the middle school ranks. Haynes, this year will floor one of the top 6th graders in the city with Myah Barnes. Barnes may be small but she has the total package and she is something else to watch. Barnes definitely will be a prospect in the future. More...
9/21 Shelby County is Gearing up for Hoops
Highland Oaks would gain the big post presence in 5'11 Brittney Cooper and the crafty and quick Dariya Drew. Also from Southwind 7th Grader Jessica Webb. The Lady Hawks gain 2 impact 6th Graders in Rodrea Echols and Kiante Butts which will definitely be true 6th grade starters. Lowrance on the other hand retained the skillful Amber Holmes. Germantown will be lack of the post play from Kalyn Parks due to injury. It is questionable that she may miss the whole season. Mt. Pisgah will do good with Aysha Harris. The County is up for grabs. Rodrea Echols Highland Oaks
Memphis City Schools Geared up and got in the Gym October 9th. Who will be the Squad to beat this year is it Ridgeway, Snowden or Havenview or will be a Newcomer this year to the Championship reign. We will know in January. |
